Back Pain – Common Causes

A large percentage of the UK’s population will suffer from back pain at some point in their life. This condition can often be disabling with no end in sight. The most common causes for back pain are;

  • Poor lifting techniques
  • Repetitive bending

  • Sedentary/inactive lifestyle

Back pain can be described in many ways but we hear the following symptons most weeks and all can be debilitating

  • Sharp or burning pain
  • Dull ache
  • Pins and needles with pain travelling down the legs
  • Pain that is aggravated by bending or sitting too long
  • Dull pain that can radiate through to your groin, hip or buttocks

Following your assessment, our physio’s will agree a treatment plan to suit your specific type of injury and fitness levels. In most cases we will apply deep tissue massage and potential joint mobilisation to relieve the pain. We will then give you a list of exercises that will enable you to continue the management of your back pain. A key phrase to live by when it comes to back pain is ‘exercise is medicine’, simply getting yourself up and about can help relieve your symptoms.
